Oneness of Life and Light, Entrusting in your Great Compassion, May you shed the foolishness in myself, Transforming me into a conduit of Love. May I be a medicine for the sick and weary, Nursing their afflictions until they are cured; May I become food and drink, During time of famine, May I protect the helpless and the poor, May I be a lamp, For those who need your Light, May I be a bed for those who need rest, and guide all seekers to the Other Shore. May all find happiness through my actions, and let no one suffer because of me. Whether they love or hate me, Whether they hurt or wrong me, May they all realize true entrusting, Through Other Power, and realize Supreme Nirvana. Namo Amida Buddha Aloe Vera Aloe Vera is an herb widely known for its noticeable impacts on health as well as a much used ingredient in the cosmetic industry Aloe Vera or "Aloe Barbadensis" originated in North Africa and spread too many fertile lands with mild climates. Its physical aspect is similar to that of the cactus. The herb has been used from the oldest of times due to its many uses. Records of Aloes use are found in a clay plank found in the antic city of Nippur, Babylon (Iraq today) dating from year 2200 b.c. There are records of Greek physicians like Celsius and Dioscorides and the Romanians (Pylni the Great) as well as the Arabs (Al-Kindi) using Aloe Vera. C.E. Collins, publisher of the first modern medical thesis in the United States (1934) refers to the healing properties and uses of Aloe Vera. Egyptians would mix aloe with other herbs while preparing remedies for internal and external issues. After the Second World War, aloe Vera was used in treating the victims of the horrific events of Nagasaki and Hiroshima because of its ability to mitigate the pain patients experienced, and its ability to assist in the healing of the skin. Aloe gel, a thick viscid liquid found in the leaves, is the most frequently used part of this wondrous plant. The gel is used in the treatment of burns and the Aloine - a bitter milky yellowish liquid is used as a laxative. The herb contains 20 minerals, some of which are Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Chromium, Selenium, 12 vitamins (A, B, C, E, folic acid), 20 of the 22 amino acids which are necessary to the human body, and over 200 active components including enzymes and polysaccharides. All of these active substances contribute to the value of the herb. Aloe Vera can assist the body in strengthening the immune system, help to accelerate and regulate the metabolism, purify the body from toxins, and bring about a feeling of calm. Aloe Vera acts as a disinfectant killing bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Another great gift of Aloe Vera is that it can support the digestive process. Aloe Vera has proved its value in providing relief of allergies, the treatment of wounds, skin infections, and even to its usage in alleviating more serious afflictions. Some examples are asthma, arthritis, gingivitis, bronchitis, pharyngitis, intestinal inflammations, constipations, sprains, muscle strains, cutaneous inflammations. Aloe Vera is another wonderful complement to Reiki in offering relief from the side effects of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and in ameliorating the symptoms of diabetes, hepatitis, pancreatitis, and multiple sclerosis. A wide array of products is obtained from Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera gel contains B-sisterole, powerful anti-inflammatory and anti- cholesterol formulas, and lupeol - a strong antiseptic tranquilizer. The aloe-based lotions and gels are used as a remedy should you receive a sunburn. Ointments having Aloe as a main ingredient moisten the skin and alleviate the pain and discomfort of bug stings and scratches. Furthermore, the aloe-based ointment is efficient in treating acne. What should be noted is the fact that this herb can be also taken internally and has a high nutritional value. When mixed with other fruits, Aloe Vera can be ingested as an excellent natural beverage rich in vitamins and minerals. Aloe Vera can be easily grown with a good light source (as this herb requires a great amount of light - 16 hours a day) and a little bit of water. Of course you can also purchase pure Aloe Vera gel and other Aloe products from your local health food store and receive the same benefits as from your live plant. Happiness and Health!
